The surprise lily — also known as a magic lily, resurrection lily, and naked lady (ooh la la) — is so named because it springs out of apparently nowhere, blooms exuberantly for a few days, then disappears again. 

Like strawberries and Flinstones Push-Ups, surprise lilies are a sure sign of summer — difficult to believe right now with snow on the ground even in south Louisiana, but it’s coming. 

Is this a surprise lily? It is not. Is it adorable? It is!
