It’s past midnight. You’ve been out having a good time or maybe working a late shift, studying hard for a big exam or just plain old insomnia. Hunger hits and it hits hard. What sort of a meal are you going out for? Do you have a favorite or regular place?

I don’t have a regular place but I’d say the place I’ve most often stopped at is a bagel deli that used to be open 24/7, since covid they’re only open 24 hours on weekends. After playing a gig and heading home around 2am I would stop in for a bagel snack and also order a dozen to take home and freeze. There was always a line at the counter that time of night, it felt right. Less frequently would be a diner for a big breakfast plate with coffee or a taqueria for either two tacos with beans and rice or three tacos a la carte. Sometimes a slice or two of pizza is all I need. A few of those places have been around a long time and maintain a reputation for consistently good food. A no-nonsense staff who’s seen it all and won’t put up with any shit definitely adds to the atmosphere.
