Ballsack’s J-Pop Midlife Crisis, pt. 10: 松尾和子
Starting sometime last year, I started really getting into Japanese music. This came as a bit of a surprise to me, because I had always thought I hated singing in Japanese. Turns out I don’t! In the night threads for the following week, I’ll write a little about each of my favorite artists that I’ve discovered, and share a streaming album for you to dutifully ignore.
I’m gonna be real with y’all, I don’t know anything about this singer, Kazuko Matsu (松尾和子), I just saw the cover of 『酒場の唄』 (Sakaba no uta), and said, that looks cool.

It’s pretty good, she has a husky voice that fits with that lounge singer at a seedy bar thing that cover’s got going on. There are a couple albums on her streaming page where she sings some standards in English. Eh, that’s boring.
