A lot of people who work on movies are creative types. They can act, write, frame a shot or perhaps they are the types who have some really great ideas about how to pull off a special or practical effect maybe they are just really great about having chairs broken over their backs. Creativity however will only take you so far, you also need a whole lot of luck, like a high level worshipper of a luck god amount of luck. Once you do manage to make it to the upper echelon however, you can take your creative great ideas and make them happen via movie magic and lots and lots of money. The money is easy to get at that point since you are a proven money maker getting there in the first place.

On the other hand there are plenty of great, creative types out there who have big, fun and big fun ideas who do not have the movie money. They have not proven themselves to be money makers yet and as such have not been granted large amounts of cash to bring those ideas to screens. And those who control the money are very adverse to risk these days so it is much harder to draw it out of them no matter how good the idea might be or how creative the idea person is.

Lucky for this we have social media (unfortunate for most other things though)! By harnessing the power of word of mouth and people’s like and sharabilities idea people no longer have to look for large amounts of money from movie executives but can now go for smaller amounts from much larger amounts of people. I’m sure the results have been mixed of course but at the end of the day lots of cool stuff is actually getting made that otherwise would not have and that at least is a good thing right?
So in the spirit of crowdsourcing this week’s prompt is suggest a future prompt(s) you would like to see explored here (I will try to take notes and work them into future prompts). I bet you thought I was gonna ask about crowdsourced movies, but then I threw a curveball and turned it into a twist ending… Also, you know, feel free to talk about crowd sourced movies or something, like Kung Fury which I actually did enjoy despite the hype. Most of the cool stuff was in the trailer but it did have enough extras in the final product to keep me entertained (particularly that weird anime sequence). Also it was wise enough to stay as a short movie on it’s premise. Part 2 is allegedly completed but having some sort of legal issues keeping it from being released.
