In 1989, 18-year-old South Korean singer Lee Ji-yeong (not Lee Byung-hun’s ex-girlfriend) released a single off of her second album called Wind, Please Stop Blowing.
In 2006, South Korean rock band Loveholic (or Loveholics) released a cover version. They added a dash of rock into the pop track, smoothed out the clippiness, altered the structure a little, and changed up the instrumental sections.
2010, American band Foster the People released a from their debut album called Pumped Up Kicks.

Now, most of you may wonder what the third song have to do with the others. And the answer is mostly likely nothing at all. However, when I first heard the songs, I absolutely heard similarities, with elements of both the original and the cover. Also, they switched the melodies of the verses and choruses from the Loveholic’s version, and then they tinkered with them a bit. Is “tinkered” doing a lot of heavy lifting in that previous sentence? Yeah, probably. If you don’t hear the similarities at all, or if you find the similarities no more notable than with other songs, then that is fine. But this is my Open Thread.
