Hi everyone. Happy New Year!
For those who don’t know, Breaking the Habit began as a Dry January post that was pinned for the whole month in 2024. At least two ‘Cados have gone sober full-time since then. (I… am not one of them.)
This year I have not asked for the thread to be pinned, but I’ll post the weekly thread on Thursdays for people who are trying to cultivate and/or quit habits this month. For those who want to continue beyond January, please join us.
Whether you’re trying to curb your use of intoxicants, eat healthier, run a marathon, read a book per week, pursue a new hobby, or just train your brain to be different… this is the thread for you! Everyone’s welcome.
Feel free to post updates, triumphs, struggles, resources, etc. I would ask that folks follow the same guidelines as on other mental health threads where we try not to assume every struggle post is an ask for suggestions (I have a “fix it” mentality myself that I need to work on). If anyone has suggestions for how the thread itself might work better for them, I am all ears!
January is my least favourite month of the 12 and this year is going to be tough for most of us. But this community is amazingly supportive and uplifting. Let’s stare 2025 in the face and make it say “uncle.”
