Jeopardy!

STARTS & ENDS WITH “O” // HODGEPODGE // CUPS & GLASSES // F. SCOTT FITZGERALD // THE LAST TYCOON // THIS SIDE OF PARODIES

DD1 – $600 – THE LAST TYCOON – Jay Gould was so unscrupulously wealthy he could be the prototypical this, with a criminal & a noble title in the name (Megan dropped $2,000 from her leading score of $3,000.)

Scores at first break: Laura $1,600, Megan $1,800, Herb $1,000.

Scores entering DJ: Laura $3,400, Megan $1,800, Herb $400.

Double Jeopardy!

SHOPPING FOR SOUVENIRS // SCIENCE // MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL TEAM GEOGRAPHY // THE “D.C.” UNIVERSE // THE DREADED LESSER-KNOWN OPERA CATEGORY // DOUBLE DOUBLE LETTERS

DD2 – $1,200 – SCIENCE – Gymnosperms like the pine tree reproduce via these organs also called strobili (Laura lost $1,800 from her leading total of $4,200.)

DD3 – $1,200 – DOUBLE DOUBLE LETTERS – This synonym for clown comes from the Italian for “puff out the cheeks” (Herb dropped into the red by losing $2,000.)

It was slow going for all three players most of the way, then Laura got on a roll at the very end to secure another runaway into FJ at $10,000 vs. $3,200 for Herb and $1,400 for Megan.

Final Jeopardy!

FICTIONAL CHARACTERS – In his very first appearance by name, this character comes downstairs “bump-bump-bump on the back of his head”

Only Megan was correct on FJ. Laura dropped $2,000 to win with $8,000 for a seven-day total of $87,400.

Final scores: Laura $8,000, Megan $1,452, Herb $2,900.

Comedic conundrums: No one knew the biggest sitcom of the 50s was “I Love Lucy”, or the movie parodies of “Top Gun” were called “Hot Shots!”

Programming note: Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait a number of weeks before we find out what’s next on Laura’s championship journey, as the Jeopardy! “post-season” starts on Monday.

Correct Qs: DD1 – What is robber baron? DD2 – What are cones? DD3 – What is buffoon? FJ – Who is Winnie-the-Pooh?
