Jeopardy!

19th CENTURY NOVELS // SCIENCE TIMELINE // AIR TRAVEL // JUST PEACHY // DUMB // WAITER

DD1 – $800 – 19th CENTURY NOVELS – Not bad for a title too: Stephen Crane wrote that Henry “wished that he too, had a wound, a” these 4 words (Jenna added $1,000.)

Scores at first break: Laura $2,400, Harry $1,800, Jenna $3,600.

Scores entering DJ: Laura $2,000, Harry $3,600, Jenna $6,800.

Double Jeopardy!

NICKNAMES OF HISTORIC WOMEN // INSCRUTABLE WORDS // INTERNATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC // WHEN IT’S TIME TO RHYME // READ FLAGS // HOLIDAY ENTERTAINMENT

DD2 – $1,200 – INTERNATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC – These mountains extend more man 1,200 miles through Morocco, Algeria & Tunisia (Jenna increased her lead by $3,000 to a score of $11,000.)

DD3 – $2,000 – READ FLAGS – A book put out by MoMA highlights this artist & his “deceptively straightforward paintings of flags” (Harry dropped $2,000 from his total of $8,800 vs. $11,000 for Jenna.)

Harry dropped further behind Jenna on DD3, rallied to make it close, then Jenna drew off again late to enter FJ at $18,200 vs. $13,200 for Harry and $5,200 for Laura.

Final Jeopardy!

GOVERNMENT & PUBLIC AWARENESS – As individuals, only Santa Claus & this public service ad icon introduced in 1944 have their own zip codes

Only Laura was correct on FJ. Harry chose to go big from a close second place, so Laura was able to pick up the win, nearly doubling to $10,200 for a four-day total of $40,400.

Final scores: Laura $10,200, Harry $1, Jenna $9,200.

Wagering strategy: The percentage play for Harry in FJ would have been a bet of less than $2,800, which would have shut out Laura and given him the win when Jenna missed without having to be correct himelf.

That’s before their time: No one could provide the coin in the old phrase about not accepting something fake, “Don’t take any wooden nickels”, or knew the 1970 Jack Nicholson movie where he told the waitress to hold the chicken between her knees, “Five Easy Pieces”.

Correct Qs: DD1 – What is red badge of courage? DD2 – What are the Atlas Mountains? DD3 – Who was Jasper Johns? FJ – Who is Smokey Bear (Smokey the Bear)?
