The Weekly Music Thread Wins the Lottery!

Let’s discuss any and all music here. Got a new artist who’s rocking your boat that you want to talk about? Post a video! Found out about that unearthed Coltrane album that has the jazz freak in you losing your mind? Lay it out for us! Have a theory about what your favorite band might do for their next album? Let’s hear it! Anything and everything music-related goes here.

This week’s discussion prompt comes courtesy of The Avocado’s very own KingKat:

“Every now and then I’ll get in the car, turn on the radio and hear a song that makes me feel like I just won the radio lottery. I thought that might make a solid concept for a prompt. What songs are you happiest to hear on the radio?

When I was 17, I finally got my driver’s license and was given permission to use my Mom’s 1988 Dodge Omni on the weekends and to go to school sometimes. For this I was very grateful; however, much to the chagrin of a young music lover such as myself, the Omni didn’t have a tape deck. The Omni did have a radio, but the selection of radio stations available to me where I lived in rural Nova Scotia was quite limited: our sole local radio station had just switched to an “all-hit country” format earlier that year, which left the light rock station (C100) and classic rock station (Q104) out of Halifax, and the two CBC stations (one that was mostly talk radio, and one that mostly played classical)1. So basically, this left me mostly flipping between the “home of rock n’ roll” and fleeing to CBC 2 for a classical cleanser when the sheer repetition or the mandatory CanCon became too much to endure.

Thankfully though, one band that was in the regular rotation at the “Q” was The Cars, and whenever one of their songs came on the radio, that always made me feel like I’d just hit the radio jackpot!

Happily I haven’t had to rely on the radio for my in-car entertainment for many years, but The Cars (and their debut album in particular) are still in regular rotation when I’m driving my automobile.

As always, any and all music-related posts are welcome. Have fun, and rock out with yr guac out!
