This week’s discussion prompt: “Lost” (and Found) Media

By now you are probably aware that the mystery of “The Most Mysterious Song on the Internet” has finally been solved – and for those who are unaware, this video (as well as the Wikipedia article about the song) provide very good summaries of the 17-year search to identify of the 40-year-old song, and the band behind it.

But there are still plenty of “lost” songs out there – songs that exist on old tapes, CD-R, hard drives, acetates, or elsewhere – but have yet to be properly identified.

So, how about you?

• Do you follow (or are you active in) the “lost media” community?
• Have you ever had the experience of liking a song, but not knowing what it was called or who performed until many years later?
• Are there any songs that you’ve heard (or think you’ve heard) that live inside of your head, but cannot for the life of you identify? Feel free to describe them, or maybe hum us a few bars! Or even better, if you have a copy available to you and are willing and able to, why not let us hear it?
