Hello fellow parents and caregivers of children!
There are a bunch of new parents here (raises hand) and there are plenty of veteran parents, as well as people who have experience caring or helping to care for children, like teachers, baby-sitters, aunts, and uncles. Coming together will help all of us, whether we need advice, commiseration, or just a space to let it out. Being a caregiver of small humans can be hard, but also rewarding and wonderful, so we can also share in the joys of watching little humans get to be big humans.
Suggested topic: Difficult Conversations.
We’ve had this topic before but I think in light of recent events, it’s worth doing again. Maybe your kids are too young to understand what national elections are, but they notice that you’re more worried and stressed than usual. Maybe they are starting to comprehend the government, and they’re as worried as you are.
Or maybe you’ve had a death in the family, human or pets, or someone has gotten other bad news, like a diagnosis that will be life-changing or, eventually, life ending. Maybe they’re approaching puberty, or showing interest in their peers, and you need to have The Talk.
Or maybe there’s good news, like a new baby on the way, or more complicated news, like you’re going to be moving.
What’s a difficult topic that you have or will face, and how have you handled talking about it with your kids? What was the hardest or easiest part? Did anything surprise you about how your kids took the news?
