The Weekly Music Thread Is MISSING

Let’s discuss any and all music here. You’ve got a new artist who’s rocking your boat that you want to talk about? Post a video! Found out about that unearthed Coltrane album that has the jazz freak in you losing your mind? Lay it out for us! Do you have a theory about what your favorite band might do for their next album? Let’s hear it! Anything and everything music-related goes here.

This week’s discussion prompt comes courtesy of The Avocado’s very own KingKat:

“Missing” Tracks

For example, what are some tracks that were originally released as part of an album, but then removed from subsequent reissues for one reason or another? Or what are some tracks that appeared at some point (as a B-side, on a compilation, etc.) but have yet to resurface on any deluxe reissues or via streaming? There are any number of other ways this prompt could be interpreted as well, so if something comes to mind, feel free to let us know down below!

What KingKat had in mind when suggesting this prompt was a version of “Darshan” by David Sylvian and Robert Fripp, taken from a live album titled Damage. When Damage was originally released in 1994, the album (mixed by Fripp) included the track; however, when the album was later remixed by Sylvian and reissued in 2001, in addition to the track order being slightly different, “Darshan” had been replaced with a track called “Jean the Birdman”. While I’m hardly an expert on the works of either artist, after hearing both tracks (and the rest of the album as well) I think I agree with KingKat that losing “Darshan” was a poor choice – “Darshan” (featured in the video above) has a lot more Fripp, and when you have a choice between more Fripp or less Fripp, obviously more Fripp is the way to go!

As always, any and all music-related posts are welcome. Have fun, and rock out with yr guac out!
