Color Outside the Lines

Hello! Welcome to COTL, a discussion place for BIPOC. Posted the first 3 Wednesdays of the month

Thread Rules

  1. We ask that only those who identify as people of color participate in this discussion. White Avocados, while valued members of this community, should remain in ‘lurk’ mode.
  2. Shaming and hateful speech are unacceptable.
  3. Please keep potentially traumatic content safely behind spoiler tags.
  4. Nobody on this thread is more or less a person of color than anyone else. (We will not set clearly delineated boundaries on who qualifies as a ‘person of color.’ As a starting point, this thread uses the definition of ‘non-European heritage of sufficient prominence to affect one’s navigation of a society built on white normativity.’ However, we recognize that there are identities which skirt either side of the divide. If people feel that they meaningfully experience the identity of being a person of color, then they are welcome to participate.)

Wut!?

I woke up a few hours ago. I think I was in shock (perhaps I still am). I don’t know what to say. Other than you’re not alone & people care.

Not all results are tabulated & there will be a lot of legal back & forth in the coming days. Unfortunately it appears Trump has won (with the 270 electoral votes needed). As well as the popular vote?

Progress is a long & slow winding race.

100 years ago women didn’t have the right to vote & neither did African Americans. That genie is not going back into the bottle. They’re gonna try to kick us down & beat us all up [footnote]Yes even the white men. Likely everyone and anyone who isn’t rich and powerful. Though even their future I can’t predict, when shit likely hits the fan.[/footnote]. Hell, we may even do it to ourselves, but we’ve gotta keep our eye on the prize and focus on the fight ahead. For the betterment of all.

The racism & misogyny will likely rear it’s ugly head in the coming days, but here at least remember that many of us are united in struggle.

It’s difficult to put into words the fear that exists for those of us who pay attention. That fear in itself is disastrous on the human body. It’s looking like defeat at the moment, but it won’t always be.

I don’t think I need to post a prompt (given what’s happening), but perhaps: what good things do you do to make yourself feel better?

I don’t want to police people’s feelings. Especially now. Feel what you need to feel. I’m saddened and sickened by what’s happened. I hope for a better time to come.
