30 Day RPG challenge day 6: Oldest RPG you’ve played + minimum Quality of Life

Welcome to the 30 Day challenge of November which is going to be all about Role Playing Games of all shapes and sizes, whether produced in Japan or USA, tactical or real-time and more.

Todays topic may for some overlap with the “First RPG”, as we’re gonna talk Old-Ass RPGs, and the playability thereof. Sometimes people come in late to a franchise (hello there Final Fantasy VII), and then work their way backwards to the earlier entries, which may cause friction due to the absence of QOL tweaks we now take for granted.
So, the two-pronged main prompt of the day is: Whats the oldest RPG you’ve played – and the oldest you still find playable and fun? What are the minimum QOL standards you need when playing an RPG for the first time now?

Bonus Prompt: What design choices should be barred from RPGs going forward?

Nostalgia Prompt: What aspect of older RPGs would you like to see brought back? And conversely, whats something you only tolerate because you have nostalgia for an RPG?

Ancient Precursors Prompt: For what franchises did trying out games older than your starting point yield the best/worst results? Any where your favorites are older than your first?
