Venom is Here — Weekend Box Office Report for November 1st-November 3rd 2024

Well, this is going to be a short report.

Forget all of the doom and gloom you read about Venom: The Last Dance’s numbers last week. The V-Man is swallowing audiences up with a fantastic hold, earning $26 million, bringing it to a delicious total of $90 million. Yes, yes, this is going to finish below the first two, but considering people were ready to write this one off after it fell below expectations during its opening, Sony has to be feeling relieved right now. Also worth noting is that the final weekend of October is a risky one to release a tentpole that isn’t a horror flick. We saw a similar story with Puss in Boots back in 2011, where it had an underwhelming debut but bounced back up.

Meanwhile, our only major newcomer Here (also from Sony)…isn’t, well, here. With only $5 million in the bank, it’s actually below the second weekend for Conclave (which is ultimately going for the same audience). Here is an ambitious title which unfortunately is getting dunked on by critics, and the marketing’s attempt to frame it as as a Forrest Gump reunion fell flat since at the end of the day it’s a very different movie. Keep in mind that novelty Oscar hopefuls usually open on limited screens before expanding from there, but for whatever reason Sony decided to go big or go home here (I promise I didn’t do that on purpose!).
