Director Profile: Elia Kazan

Scott’s desire to tell people what movies to watch knows no bounds. He’s decided to create a series on here devoted to profiling directors and creating guides to their films. This week’s director is… Elia Kazan.

(NOTE: Elia Kazan was a huge bastard, naming names for HUAC. Not the worst bastard I’ve covered in this series (Michael Curtiz is, hard to beat getting a bunch of extras killed) but still a bastard for sure. If you don’t wish to support his films, that is perfectly understandable.)

Highly recommended: Gentleman’s Agreement, A Streetcar Named Desire, On the Waterfront, East of Eden, Baby Doll, A Face in the Crowd, Wild River, Splendor in the Grass, America America

Recommended: A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Pinky, Panic in the Streets, The Arrangement

Worth a look: Boomerang!, Viva Zapata!, The Last Tycoon

Next week’s director is… Joel Schumacher
