I mostly take wildlife photos, but have been recently taking pictures of many other things. This week: Gravestones at Provincetown Cemetery No. 1 – Winthrop Street Cemetery. The oldest standing cemetery in the town of Provincetown MA, Winthrop is one of my favorite cemeteries to photograph. I come here all the time to take pictures. The cemetery itself is located on a picturesque sandy hill just a few blocks from downtown Provincetown, and the famed Pilgrim Monument. The the markers dating back to mid-1600s and the original English settlers from the Mayflower are lost to history, but there are lots of per-Revolution and into the Gilded Age stones in excellent condition. There are all sorts great gravestones from a sad stone of infant that only lived 12 hours to a sea captain that died returning from the 1745 Siege of Louisbourg.
