The Friday Politics Thread Survives Another Week & Heads To The (Northern) Border

As we get ready for our weekend birb event, and continue to deal with the final weeks of the 2024 election, we must make our way through Friday.

This week I want to highlight some long-form journalism I talked about earlier in the week. Peter Santenello is someone who I’m mixed on but he’s able to get into a lot of places that are never covered. His work covering Appalachia previously was a hugely fascinating non-judgmental look. This piece takes us to the northern US border with an elected sheriff who talks about the issues they’re facing that we almost never hear about but is an important part of the larger discussion. It’s an interview and examination that should leave you agreeing on some things, disagreeing on others, but also learning a lot along the way.
