Welcome back to Wednesday. The days are slowly starting to get shorter, and although the heat isn’t abating (at least in Cordytown), the promise of fall is approaching.
This week I thought I’d share some recent science news for everyone to enjoy. A small sampling of what’s happening in the world of science and health:
The CDC issued updated guidelines relating to inserting an IUD, advising that doctors consider using a local anesthetic to ease the pain. Science Friday hosted a segment on this topic.
COVID continues surging, and NYT reports on the ways we’ve become lax in vigilance of the disease as it shifts toward “endemic” status. The article also features conversations with epidemiologists about recommendations and what this means. (Along with that: A new COVID booster shot has been approved, so be sure to get that and a flu shot in the coming fall).
Scientists who study aging have recently published research suggesting that the body undergoes two major changes in adulthood: In our 40s and 60s. An interesting window into how our body changes as we age.
For our dinosaur lovers, Scientific American also has a great cover story about sensory perception in dinosaurs. Neat!
And for my space friends, how about looking out for a nova that should flare in the night sky sometime in the coming months?
Hope you PT scientists, scienticians, and science enthusiasts enjoy this snapshot. Share your own science news today if you come across anything! And as always, be kind and thoughtful today. Cheers.
