Catch Expos Fever in ’94 with the 08/11 Day Thread!

It’s August 11th 1994 and Major League Baseball is sick… with Expos Fever! This late in the season, for the first time in their history, the Montreal Expos are in first place in the National League East! At 74-40 they’ve got  the best record in all of Major League Baseball, nothing can stop the Expos in ‘94!

The baseball world knew great things were coming  from the Montreal Expos when the season began in April, but the Expos have been even better than that! With a powerhouse lineup filled with stars like Moisés Alou, with a batting average of .339 and on pace snag 200 hits, Marquis Grissom, mark my words he’ll have around 130 runs come the end of the season,  Will Codero, who’s tearing up the base-path and,  Larry Walker, he’s hitting for power and should bring home well over 100 runs on his own! The Expos have scored 585 runs (that’s an impressive 5.13 per game) whilst only allowing 454 runs (just 3.98 a game) in my math that adds up to a World Series victory parade on rue Sainte-Catherine! Don’t even get started me on the pitching! The pitching staff is led by rising star Pedro Martinez who on April 13th had a perfect game going deep into the 8th inning! Sure the perfect game was thwarted when  he brushed-back a batter which led to a bench clearing brawl, but so what, he’s still nigh unhittable! Martinez looks well on his way to strike out over 200 batters over the course of the ‘94 season! But Pedro is not the only star on the mound for the Expos, Ken Hill is on pace for all but guaranteed 20+ win season! The Bullpen is Par Excellence with an MLB best 3.56 ERA, leading the majors with 46 saves, and only allowing 288 walks (you guessed it, the fewest in baseball)! Five, you read that right Five, members of the Expos were on the National League All-Star team! Ken Hill held his American League  rivals scoreless, Marquis Grissom belted a monster home run, and  in the bottom of the 10th inning Moisés Alou hit a game-winning RBI double in the NL’s 8-7 victory!

The team is lead by manager Felipe Alou, Moisés’ father, who a baseball savant and a shoe-in for Manager of the Year in ‘94! With his expert leadership, and a front office that committed to winning, the Montreal Expos are heading straight for the top of Major League Baseball and are looking to stay there for years to come! Of course,  let’s not forget that Olympic Stadium is rocking even harder than the Montreal Forum! With an average of 25,000 fans attending, every game is a packed house! With  a record of 46-18  since June 1st the Expos have been on an absolute dominate tear, and have been almost unbeatable since the All-Star break! The rest of the feeble league  has virtually no chance at catching them, the National League Pennant  is all but theirs! Hell, I don’t wanna  wait until September; the time to strike is now! Let’s just end the ‘94 season tomorrow and award the World Series title to the Expos! The future is Bleu, Blanc, et Rouge!

Jump for joy, Youppi! This is our year!
