The Weekly Wrestling Thread Had a Busy Week

It was a busy week for wrestling, so let’s get to it.

-SummerSlam was this past weekend and it was a pretty great show. In terms of in-ring wrestling, Gunther vs. Damian Priest was the best. The weakest match was Nia Jax vs. Bayley but it wasn’t a bad match at all.
-The biggest story from SummerSlam was Roman Reigns’ return and seeming face turn. He showed up for Cody Rhodes and Solo Sikoa’s match and speared his cousin instead of the man he spent the past year feuding with. Going to be real interesting to see where this leads to.
-The other big story was the implosion of Judgment Day. Rhea Ripley and Damian Priest were ejected from the group and Liv Morgan was added on. There were leaks that Ripley and Priest (as well as Roman Reigns) are listed as faces internally.
-Bron Breakker defeated Sami Zayn for the Intercontinental Championship in a short but good match. Breakker’s father Rick Steiner and uncle Scott Steiner were there to see him win.
-Logan Paul had a shitty week and he deserved every minute of it. He wadded into the vile witch hunt against Imane Khelif and called her competing “evil” before Isla Dawn subtweeted his gross ass and he had to do damage control. Later that week, he lost the U.S. Championship to L.A. Knight. He’s also suing Knight in kayfabe so that the top Google result for “Logan Paul lawsuit” is this and not any of the actual lawsuits against him. He’s obviously a great wrestler but I’d be fine if he never shows up in a wrestling ring again.
-The Wyatt Sicks made their in-ring debut against Chad Gable and the Creed Brothers (under the new stable American Made) and it was a great showing. There were some concerns that while the gimmick was great, it might not translate well in the ring (a very popular criticism of Bray Wyatt’s matches as The Fiend). Luckily, they realized the issues with The Fiend and had the three members (Erick Rowan, Dexter Lumis, and Joe Gacy) wrestle without the masks and it works. Also, Rowan did a little shout out to Brodie Lee, which was a wonderful touch.
-It was revealed that Britt Baker was suspended after a backstage confrontation with MJF. The details that have leaked out are this: Baker complained about all the time MJF and Will Ospreay were given, which Alicia Atout (MJF’s fiance) heard and told MJF about. They had a heated conversation that allegedly involved Baker calling Atout a name that we can’t say on here and MJF punched a wall. There was some criticism of MJF too (for punching a wall and entering the women’s locker room, though other people have said that he only punched the wall after Baker left and asked permission before entering the locker room; not sure if they’re legit or just MJF covering his ass) but Baker has received the lion’s share of criticism thanks to the whole “bullying Thunder Rosa so badly that she was contemplating suicide” clusterfuck from a few year’s ago. She’s still scheduled to face Mercedes Mone at All In at the end of the month.
-The luchador Aramis was repackaged as Hologram and debuted on AEW a few weeks ago and he’s already over. He’s been one of my under the radar favorites and I’m glad that so many people are realizing his greatness.
-AEW Collision received the worst ratings in AEW history on Saturday, with only 189,000 viewers. This was mainly because it was moved three hours earlier than usual to not compete with SummerSlam. Some have accused WWE of intentionally sabotaging the show by running a longer than usual pre-show but let’s be real, who actually watches the pre-shows when there aren’t any matches? If you would rather watch a pre-show without matches than actual wrestling, that’s a serious problem with the latter.
-Not real news but a personal note: I’m taking the 25th off from work just so I can watch All In live. AEW almost always knocks it out of the park with their PPVs and this should continue that trend.
