Happy Monday, folks, and welcome to the Weekly Video Games Thread!
The prompt is easy: loot shooters. Last month I played Borderlands, a game that effectively codified this comparatively newer genre. These are shooters based around the aggressively accumulation of stuff, in particular tons and tons and tons and tons of guns. These are usually randomized aggressively, so the stuff you use—the things you use to play the game—are also a reward, and potentially a way to really upend the gameplay. I didn’t end up particularly interested in going further into these kinds of games myself, but I’m interested in hearing any stories from you. Have you played one of these games? What was your experience? What do you like to see from their mechanics, and what do you not? And if you haven’t played one, is there something from afar that you’d like them to adapt?
But as this genre is something of an acquired taste, what did you play this weekend? And while you’re here, be sure to read Lovely Bones’ monthly news information collation!
