Welcome to The Avocado’s weekly discussion of Japanese pop culture! I recently saw that Nishino Kana (西野カナ) released a new song after a 5 year hiatus, and that she has an EP coming out in September. I was familiar with the name but not much else, so I listened to the new song and then found myself digging through her many, many hits. I now understand why she was so popular throughout the 2010s and why there was so much excitement surrounding her return to music! She has A LOT of music to sort through, so much so that her ultimate “best of” album released earlier this year contains 4 discs with 51 songs in total. If that sounds a little overwhelming, you could start out with one of her smaller “best of” collections (there are several to choose from). Either way, if you’re looking for something new to listen to today, I highly recommend her music! Here’s just one song that I liked a lot to give you a sample:
