The Weekly Wrestling Thread Isn’t Prepared for John Cena Retiring

Few people have had such an impact on wrestling as John Cena. He was the most important wrestler in the world for nearly two decades. He’s had a legendary career, a career that is unfortunately ending next year. He’s getting up there in age and some of his recent matches haven’t been up to par but it’s still going to be gutting to see him ride off into the sunset. I’ve seen some people predict that his final match will be with Trick Williams on NXT’s premiere on The CW, which would be a perfect sendoff. Hope we also get one last match with Randy Orton and CM Punk too before then.

Other notable moments from wrestling this past week:
-Minoru Suzuki collapsed during a match in Japan. He had a concussion. He’s fine now but it’s scary to see.
-Money in the Bank was this weekend and it underwhelmed. It wasn’t completely awful but it could have been better. The biggest point of contention was in Seth Rollins vs. Damian Priest (vs. Drew McIntyre), when Priest forgot to kick out and the ref, knowing that McIntyre was going to cash in, ruled it a two count. There were fears that Priest got a stinger but it sounds like just a normal botch instead, which is better than the alternative.
-NXT Heatwave, on the other hand, completely over-performed. The weakest match on the main card was Roxanne Perez vs. Lola Vice, which I still gave a 4.5/5. Seriously, check this PLE out if you haven’t yet.
-AEW Collision was mostly middling this week but then we got to the main event between Jay White vs. Hangman Adam Page and it was so goddamn great that I have to mention it. Seek this one out too.
-Rhea Ripley returned to Raw and we’re sure to get some amazing material with her and Dom and Liv.
-The Rascalz and Joe Hendry appeared on NXT this week. The Rascalz showed up to talk down Wes Lee from retiring and Hendry to team with Trick Williams.
-Damon Kemp was unexpectedly released from WWE. He was written off by having The No Quarter Catch Crew stuff him into the truck (Kemp would say on Twitter that it was OK since, Myles turned up the AC for him, which was a nice touch). God I love NXT.
