On the train to Chicago right now! I’m guessing if the schedule’s right we’re rapidly nearing Kalamazoo (where I really ought to pay a visit again before the year’s out). Looking forward to my first visit to the Art Institute in five years and my first to the Field Museum in over fifteen (I understand it now bears far less resemblance to an overgrown fifties high school lab). Seeing Wand at Thalia Hall and hopefully getting in a swim in Lake Michigan before leaving Friday, among other things. Trying not to overload my schedule the way I did with New York; I’ve been here a couple of times already, after all.

Feeling a lot better creatively than the last couple of months. There’ve been compensations, to be sure, but I really want to get making again. July, despite this trip, should be slower socially and so I’m hoping there’ll be a lot more time to process and experiment. Already a couple of paintings and illustrations under my belt and underway, which is a lot more than can be said for much of this year.

Still using digital frames to mess with that whole “AI training”; the two pictures above are Hangman’s Dryads and Verdant Clerisy, the former based loosely on my visit to New York (Washington Square Arch paraphrased in top right). The header’s downtown Chicago from Lincoln Park, taken sometime in winter or late autumn of 2018 (forgot to read the timestamp).

How’s your work going?
