The Thursday Politics Thread Celebrates Independence

Mornin’ Politocadoes!

It’s the Fourth of July for Americans at home and abroad. A time for cookouts, outdoor activities, and lots of questionable uses of fireworks, firearms and alcohol. Can’t think of a lot of reasons stateside to really celebrate independence. The Supreme Court has all but declared the power to be a tyrant, unaccountable and unassailable, is there for a certain sort of President, the week of our nation’s founding. Our current President has come off as feeble, weak, and stubborn at a time when we needed him to reassure us the most. What is there to celebrate about Independence?

It feels sometimes these days like we’re going through the motions. Why are we going to parades, setting off fireworks, why are we doing any of this? It feels rote and practiced. This is what we have always done, so we’ll continue to do it. Pay no attention to what the right hand is doing. That’s always been the case though.

But we have to find something. Find something to celebrate today, find people to do it with. It can mean anything to anyone, just so long as it brings you some joy and hope for the future. This has been such a deflating week for us here, with spiral after spiral into doomerism. It’s important stay realistic, but it’s just as important to find bright spots. If that means staying off here today, unplugging from the world at large, then by Jove do it. We need our strength, we need resilience if we hope to get through the rest of the year and whatever else comes our way.

Happy Fourth of July!

Welcome to Thursday! Please be excellent to each other in the comments. The Mayor McSquirrel Rule remains in effect. Something to keep in mind! Police are using digital data to prosecute abortion seekers, and Facebook and Google are helping them! Even if they are not legally required to do so, the tech giants will aid them in this since it’s technically *against the law*. Please be careful when looking for abortion providers or helping someone who is looking for that assistance.
