The Day Thread of Animal Disguises

Animals disguised as other animals are fun, eh? Here’s an especially neato one…

Q: Are we not hummingbird?

A: We are moth!

Multiple species of hummingbird moths occupy a large portion of the world. Depending on which species you may have in your neck of the woods, you may know them as hummingbird moths, sphinx moths, hawk moths, bee-hawk moths, what have you. They hover, flit, and hum, have a long tongue with which they drink nectar, and also resemble their namesake birds physically, especially in profile. They fly during the day. Also they like lilacs. So if you want hummingbird moths and you live within their range, plant lilacs along with other native flora.
