34 Counts and what do you get? Another day older and deeper in debt. St. Peter don’t you call me cause I can’t go, I sold my soul to the company store
Today’s Trans Artist is kicking off a series on Trans Musicians in Country and Americana Music! To that end today we’re talking about Dave Carter of Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer fame. Carter was a singer and songwriter mostly in Folk Country with a penchant for wonderful turns of phrase and amazing lyrics! Along with hers and Grammer’s rise to fame she was transitioning in secret with support from friends and loved ones. Sadly it all came to a tragic early end in 2002 when Carter died of a Heart Attack. The Musical Duo had big plans. Carter was going to release one more “Cowboy Album” and the duo would temporarily go solo as Carter prepared to come out as A Woman. Once she was out Carter and Grammer would’ve reunited under the banner The Butterfly Conservatory an absolute beauty of a band name.
Carter’s story is one of music’s most tragic what ifs. A Duo being broken up right as they were hitting their creative heights and a Woman who never got to show the world her true self.
