What a great show so far! We saw a ton of fantastic musicians on the stage, but now thanks to your votes, we’ve narrowed it down to 32 bands left. Here are some of the highlights (and low notes) from the first round.
The four top-seeded bands all made it through their first match-ups easily, but it was the 11th seed The Be-Sharps that earned the highest total votes this round with 34. Homer Simpson’s Grammy-winning barbershop quartet also wins the prize for highest margin of victory, beating their opponent, Pearl! Pearl! Pearl! Pearl! Pearl!, by 30 points. On the other hand, the closest matches were decided by only 2 points–Buckaroo Banzai and the Hong Kong Cavaliers beat The Commitments 14-12, and the Riverbottom Nightmare Band won out over Mouse Rat by 15-13. Mouse Rat also tied with Powerline and The Archies for having the most votes among the eliminated bands, with each getting 13. Dragon Sound, meanwhile, moves on to the next round with only 12 votes, making it the least upvoted band to continue. We had a number of lower seeded bands winning their matchups, including 47th seed The Clash at Demonhead defeating 19th seed Marceline the Vampire Queen to become the lowest seeded act remaining. Finally, two bands tied for the lowest total points, with Faith + 1 and The Way-Outs each scoring only 2 votes. To show our appreciation, let’s let them play themselves out!
Without further ado, let’s get started with Round 2!
