Hoped to spin some creative catch-up into the pleasant weather we’ve been having recently in my neck of the woods, but the shifting nature of this week’s forecast has complicated things; I’d hoped to spend most of tomorrow biking around Detroit and exploring a few neighborhoods outside of my usual range (I’ve been looking forward to this all winter), but this weekend, Wednesday suddenly sprouted a rain forecast that’s twisted and turned over the last few days. It now looks like the rain’ll be concentrated in the afternoon, which means I might be able to get a little riding in but will have to substantially rearrange the planned schedule (including visits to the Detroit Institute of Arts and the nearby Scarab Club for the latter’s annual Gilda Snowden Memorial Exhibit).
On a more directly creative note, I’m on the last three pages of one of the Piccadilly sketchbooks that I bought on clearance at Barnes and Noble at the start of my present artistic “career” (if you can call it that). This would have been back in early 2016 (maybe even late 2015) and while it always gives me a sense of accomplishment to finish one in general, one of these feels especially satisfying. I used to use these for “proper” illustrations but devoted them to field sketches sometime back (one reason I’ve been stepping up the latter is to finish these off; there’s one more small sketchbook and a couple of larger ones I have in storage). Guessing it’ll wrap up sometime tomorrow in Detroit and am looking forward to raising a glass to it at some point (wherever I end up; probably the Lager House). Hoping everyone else has a similarly fulfilling couple of days.
The header image is a recent sketch of the new Misfit Society Cafe in Ann Arbor. I’ve been trying to shake up some of my usual haunts, and while this isn’t exactly a new favorite, it’s relatively convenient, the coffee’s decent, and there’s a nice little bar in back where I can sit (the light could be better, but that’s most everywhere in this town).
How’s your work going?
