Night Thread of the Kidsongs Sandmen (04/12)

Does anyone else remember the Kidsongs videos? Released on VHS starting the mid-1980s and apparently also including a TV show for a while, they feature lots of kids in various singalong musical numbers. Installments included A Day at Old McDonald’s Farm–guess which song that title comes from–and What I Want to Be with aspirational tunes such as “I Wanna Be a Fireman”.

Tonight, we’re revisiting the video Goodnight, Sleep Tight which is themed around kids and their families getting ready for bed. The running frame narrative linking the songs is that of two Sandmen, master and apprentice, reviewing the art of helping people fall asleep. They’re dressed appropriately, have sparkly magic sand, and sing a gently hypnotic earworm called “Tomorrow is a Dream Away”:

Though the above video embed is set to introduce the Sandmen, anyone feeling adventurous can wind it back to the beginning and watch the whole thing. Some of it is adorably dorky, and it has relaxing vibe only aided by the dreamlike effect of being an old VHS transfer. There’s even a Beatles song (“Good Night”) near the end.

On that note, good night thread, one and all. . . . . . ✨
