Jeopardy!

“A” TO “A” COUNTRIES // PARENTING // ACHES & PAINS // WORKING HARD , HARDLY WORKING // POP CULTURE IS SPRINGING OUT ALL OVER // SLANGUAGE

DD1 – 800 – WORKING HARD, HARDLY WORKING – This traditional term for Japan’s famously hard-laboring male office workers references both wages & gender (Amy doubled to 8,800.)

Scores at first break: Amy 3,800, Victoria 3,800, Andrew 1,800.

Scores entering DJ: Amy 8,800, Victoria 6,800, Andrew 3,000.

Double Jeopardy!

NOVEL TITLE CHARACTERS // COLLEGES & UNIVERSITIES // CONSONANT-VOWEL x3 // A SECRET CHORD // DAVID PLAYED // IT PLEASED THE LORD

DD2 – 800 – NOVEL TITLE CHARACTERS – The first name of this title character of a Defoe novel is an old word for a prostitute (Victoria doubled to 22,400.)

DD3 – 1,600 – CONSONANT-VOWEL x3 – Catholics hoping for special grace may pray this, said for 9 consecutive days (Amy doubled to 24,000.)

Once again Victoria turned in a powerful performance, but a double-up by Amy on DD3 prevented a runaway. This time Amy was within two-thirds of Victoria’s score, with Victoria at 37,600, Amy with 26,000 and Andrew at 8,600.

Final Jeopardy!

MYTHOLOGY – A peasant who became the King of Phrygia created this intricate problem that was solved in 333 B.C.

Everyone was correct on FJ, with Victoria improving by 14,401 to take her first victory in the final with 52,001. Note that with a smaller wager, Amy could have won if Victoria missed without Amy having to be correct on FJ.

Final scores: Amy 37,601, Victoria 52,001, Andrew 16,600.

Correct Qs: DD1 – What is salaryman? DD2 – Who is Moll Flanders? DD3 – What is novena? FJ – What is the Gordian Knot?
