Hi there! If you’re joining us now, the month of march is gonna be all about platforming games – 2D, 3D, maybe even 2.5D.
Todays prompt is about the structures of the games themselves. Starting mostly as decidedly linear level-based affairs platformers would gradually give more player choice in progression through level selects and hubworlds, before eventually creating huge interconnected 3D worlds or 2D metroidvania maps.
So which structure do you prefer for your platforming games? Levels, open maps, or a mix? What are the worst facets of the individual approaches?
