Weekly Video Games Thread Needs Help With Some Kid-Friendly Games

Happy Monday, folks! Welcome to the Weekly Video Games Thread! I’m Wolfman Jew, and today, I’m looking for some help. So I’m going to sadly push down my Akira Toriyama tribute idea for later (unless Bones or Brakeman wants to use it themselves—and please do if either of you are running short on something before my next thread in two weeks. I’ve actually got a bunch of topics I keep pushing back).

I recently learned some relatives are planning to buy a Nintendo Switch. This would be the first system for them, including a youngster who hasn’t played much of anything yet. They have their mind set on one particular game, but I’m always a believer in the idea that a console should at least give you ten. These are big systems; it’s good to get use out of them. And these would have to be very kid-friendly, with little in the way of violence or wanton cruelty or hyper complexity. Fortunately, the Switch has a great many, and I have plenty of ideas: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, New Pokémon Snap, A Short Hike, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Clubhouse Games, Snipperclips, Animal Crossing. But, and here’s the prompt, give me some more ideas. If it has animals or a general sense of kindness, that’s especially good. I don’t want to let these folks down! People have never asked me for advice save three specific situations, and video game purchases are one of them.

Beyond that, I need to think of a few things. I’ve got to explain how online gaming works and whether they’d want the benefits of Nintendo Switch Online (of course, anyone here who has me as a friend knows I’m a fan of their retro collections). We’ve got to discuss stuff like SD cards and the different models, and that Switch successor on the horizon. But I’ve got that to think about that stuff on my own—for you, what did games did you get into this weekend?
