Hi there! If you’re joining us now, the month of march is gonna be all about platforming games – 2D, 3D, maybe even 2.5D.
Platformers almost always has something to collect in the worlds. Sometimes collecting nets you a life, sometimes its necessary for progression. Sometimes the things are hidden away, sometimes you need to find all 100 smaller things to get one important bigger thing.
So for today I wanna know, which games made collecting every doodad fun and satisfying, and which games went totally overboard and made it a chore?
Note: this is intended to refer more to things actually placed in the levels/overworld rather than just things you get for simply beating the level – think more Mario’s green stars than yellow stars, though the border can admittedly be fuzzy.
Bonus: What purpose should platformer collectables serve, if any? Skins, true ending, secret bonus world, or simply percentage completion?
Extra Bonus: What platforming game could’ve used some collectables to spice up its world?
Extra bonus Deluxe: Any specific platformer collectables that were way too damn hard to get?
TOMORROW: Bosses
