The Night Thread Approaches the Black Hole (03/15)

The opening credits of Disney’s 1979 film The Black Hole feature some wonderful John Barry music and a “grid in space” visual motif that’s primitive but fun:

Once the movie proper begins, the singularity itself is rendered in beautiful, starry detail:

The look here is not the more scientifically-informed visualization that one will find today in, say, Interstellar, but like dinosaurs without feathers, it’s hard to argue against the artistic and dramatic qualities of the old style.
