Hi there! If you’re joining us now, the month of march is gonna be all about platforming games – 2D, 3D, maybe even 2.5D.
We’re gonna dip in and out of franchises and more general, technical prompts, and today is one of the latter. With platforming games generally built around navigating environmental hazards tight and intuitive controls are key. Conversely, elaborate moves allow for the design of trickier, more unique challenges to overcome.
So todays prompt runs the gamut of input lag, double jumps, wall jumps and slippery kinetics, and asks whats’ your favorite examples of Locomotion BOTH for 2D and 3D platformers? What are the most tightly controlling games – and what aren’t?
ALSO, NOTE: There’s gonna be a separate prompt for Attacks down the line
Bonus: What move is always fun, in whatever game its in?
Extra Bonus: What game made what should have been a base-level move an unlockable?
Extra Bonus Deluxe: A game that went overboard with too many, too situational moves
Extra Bonus Triple Deluxe: What games’ controls made you go “That death was on YOU, not me, game!”
TOMORROW: Aesthetics
