Howard Nemerov was born on March 1, 1920. He was the U.S. Poet Laureate 1963-1964 and 1988-1990. He won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1978. Howard Nemerov died in 1991. Here’s one of my favorite Nemerov poems:
Because You Asked about the Line Between Prose and Poetry
Sparrows were feeding in a freezing drizzle
That while you watched turned to pieces of snow
Riding a gradient invisible
From silver aslant to random, white, and slow.
There came a moment that you couldn’t tell.
And then they clearly flew instead of fell.
