The handkerchief or dove tree, Davidia involucrata, is a little deciduous tree in the tupelo family. It is a weird little relic as it, and its closest relatives, are the last survivors of an old family that was once much more numerous. It has large, light green leaves but is most notable for its huge white flower bracts, which look exactly as though someone wrapped tissues round a Ferrero Rocher and then dropped them on the tree from a great height:

The little pear-shaped fruits that follow are edible if unappetising, although they are rumoured to cause mild hallucinations, which may be either a plus or a negative depending on your inclinations.
