Today is the most sacred of days, the day we honor Ash, who inspired us all to be the very best, like no one ever was.

To commemorate the occasion, here’s an old Burger King commercial for the home video release of Pokémon: The First Movie, which happens to be the film in which he died and was reborn. Amen. Also, this was originally going to be the conclusion of the anime series, complete with a deleted epilogue with an adult Ash married to Misty. It is unknown if this would have provided closure to the “Ash needs to get Misty a new bike” arc. In any case, Pokémon was making way too much money for Nintendo to let it wrap it up like that, so Ash ended up staying a permanent child for more than 20 years.
