Weekly Japanese Pop Culture Thread (February 7, 2024)

Welcome to The Avocado’s weekly discussion of Japanese pop culture! Sometimes, for no reason at all, a band/musician doesn’t click with me…until suddenly, without anyway warning, they do. This was true for Mrs. GREEN APPLE. I’ve been aware of them for a while, and I’d listened to a few of their songs without anything catching. And then I heard 「ケセラセラ」(“Que Sera Sera”) and everything changed. I changed. I still don’t know how to properly explain it, but that song opened up my heart and my brain and now I can’t stop listening to all of their music. I have also spent a lot of time watching their live performances because I find them so compelling and…I don’t know…invigorating? It’s like their energy is contagious. And I love, love, love Motoki Ohmori’s voice. I could listen to it all day long (and often do). Anyway…I’m late to the party, but don’t make the same mistake I did. Open your heart to Mrs. GREEN APPLE today!

I love everything this performance. The shots of the crowd, the amazing fashion, the joy, Motoki’s expressions. It. Is. Perfect.
Just me sitting over here dreaming of being in the audience for this show. I want be there! It just looks so fun and stunning.

And, as always…

What have you been watching/reading/playing/eating/listening to lately?

Happy Wednesday! 🙂
