Tabletop Games (2/7/24)

Back by popular demand, it’s the weekly Tabletop Games thread! This thread is where we can talk about all kinds of RPGs, card games, board games, etc. Whether you gather around a physical table in the real world, or use a virtual space to play with friends who may live far away from you, this is where you can discuss your favorites, ask for and/or receive recommendations, recap your recent adventures, or even find some people to play games with!

This week’s prompt: There are a lot of new games coming to the TTRPG space in 2024 (or soon after). WotC’s OGL scandal last year seemed to act as a catalyst that pushed a lot of third-party 5e publishers into developing their own independent systems, including companies like Kobold Press, MCDM, Critical Role. In addition, WotC is still hard at work on revisions to the core D&D 5e rulebooks, having just wrapped up the public playtest for the updated Player’s Handbook. What are you looking forward to most in 2024?

Programming Note: Sorry for going dark for so long! This discussion hadn’t seemed to getting much traction in the last few weeks of the year, so I sort let it quietly die off after the holidays. I realize, though, that part of the problem was likely that I made the decision to move the thread’s posting time from Wednesday to Tuesday. I’m going to revert back to the Wednesday posting schedule and see if that helps. I’ll do my best to keep up with the weekly posts. If you would like to suggest a prompt or contribute a write-up or discussion topic of your own, let me know in the comments!
