Garth Brooks was born on this day in 1962. RIAA (the Recording Industry Association of America) states that he is the best selling solo artist of all time, and he is behind only The Beatles as second best selling artist of all time. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2011 and the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2012. In 2020, he became the youngest musician to receive the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song from the Library of Congress.
Wikipedia fun fact: In 2000, Garth Brooks sang with George Michael at the Equality Rocks concert benefiting gay rights. His half-sister Betsy Smittle (died in 2013), who recorded and toured with him in the early 1990s, was a lesbian.
