The Weekly Wrestling Thread Is Not Feeling It This Week

From a wrestling standpoint, it was a great week. The Royal Rumble was great, featuring the returns of Andrade, Naomi, and Liv Morgan, the debut of Jade Cargill, and Jordynne Grace’s instantly iconic appearance. On free TV, we had amazing matches (Bryan Danielson vs. Yuji Nagata, FTR and Daniel Garcia vs. House of Black, Gunther vs. Kofi Kingston, etc.). We also got the continuing adventures of supreme hater Drew McIntyre and it’s been amazing. If you just focused on what was on-screen, it was a great week.

But then there’s the Vince situation and it cast a pitch black cloud over the wrestling world. At the very best, Vince is a sick, sick human being. At the worst, he’s a monster of near-Grizzly Smith proportions. Not only that but it appears very likely that Brock Lesnar, one of my favorite wrestlers, was involved too (Vince definitely pimped his victim to him but it’s not clear how aware Lesnar was how horrifying the situation was). And then there’s Triple H’s response, which was so spectacularly dumb that even people that think he shouldn’t step down are second guessing that. Vince might finally be gone from WWE (with his profile being nuked from the WWE website) but there are more people like him out there in the wrestling world. It’s the kind of situation that makes people disillusioned with the wrestling world.

But not me. 99% of the wrestlers in WWE weren’t aware of how evil their boss was and the wrestlers in AEW, TNA, and other promotions definitely didn’t either (aside from this Vince victimized). They’re just people who put their bodies on the line just to entertain us and I don’t think they should have to pay for what some evil old man did.
