Welcome to 2024! A while new year, a whole new slate of films. We’ve got a movie version of the musical version of the movie Mean Girls,one MCU (?) movie in Deadpool 3, the cinematic version of the TV show Fall Guy, and the freakin’ Borderlands movie starring Cate Blanchett. This year will see if you’re cravin’ for more Kraven or hanging by a thread to Madame Web.

Hopefully, fingers crossed, 2024 will see the second film in the Dune trilogy. We will also see Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn in the Joker sequel… which may, in fact, be the greatest superhero movie casting of all time. Some of the most unlikely films will get sequels this year: Gladiator, Twister, Beetlejuice, and the Jaden Smith Karate Kid. I guess Top Gun: Maverick was a harbinger of a future trend — belated sequels to movies over a decade old.

Also getting sequels: every ape I see, from Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire to Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. A lot of primates establishing political boundaries this year.

But sequels aren’t the only movies coming out this year. Furiosa returns in a prequel. Surprisingly, so does Mufasa in a prequel to the”live-action” Lion King. (Do you want to know how he got his Scar?) Have you ever wondered how A Quite Place became so quiet? Well A Quiet Place: Day One is the movie for you. Meanwhile, step back into the world of John Wick but with Ana de Armas as a main character in Ballerina.

But it’s not all just prequels, sequels and continuing series. There are a bunch of original films in 2026 as well. Our old pal Diablo Cody is back with her take on classic movie monsters with Lisa Frankenstein. Ethan Coen is directing a comedy road film on his own with Drive-Away Dolls. Kevin Costner directs a two part epic Western called Horizon: An American Saga.

And we all know what you want: Jason Statham as a beekeeper in The Beekeeper.
