And a thought: between the Wonder Flowers in Super Mario Bros Wonder, Mysterio in Spider-Man 2 and the Scorpion venom bit in the original, not to mention my endless love of Silent Hill, stories and mechanics that mess with player perception is an interesting, regular motif in video games.
