7-8 March: WPT

No election; open topic

Anna: Well I suppose we should talk about the coronavirus. No, I’m not writing this at 2 AM on Saturday morning, don’t look at me like that. Or cough on me, please.

Some areas of the world have already started adjusting for the incoming influx  of influenza-like symptoms. And for most of the week, I was thoroughly prepared to give my own country shit for not doing so.

But lo and behold, the Emerald City Comic Con has been postponed. I am betting it was because too many celebrities pulled out, personally, but it is a good start for stepping up and doing the work that needs done, especially when the person leading the crisis response cannot stop touching his face (she says, while touching her face). Fuck, it’s so hard not to touch your face.

Also, and sorry to inflame things, but this week I got my heart broken a bit when Warren dropped out. Now listen, I agree that politicians aren’t celebrities and they shouldn’t have fans, but in 2016 I saw so many people saying they would vote for a woman, just not that one, and then offering Warren as an acceptable candidate. Well, it’s 2020 and where did those votes go? Electing women is a self-fulfilling prophecy: if you worry she’s not electable so you vote for someone else she becomes unelectable because you did not vote for her. And it’s fine that Warren wasn’t your preferred candidate (you being the general population, this paragraph is more of a tweet thread) but if I see that shit next cycle, I swear to God…

Alright, I feel better now, I just needed to get that out. Thank you for indulging me.
