The Hivedrive is a not a course for the faint of heart. The relatively tame straightaways belie just how difficult this course is. Its centrepiece is a hive-like obstacle course built from hexagonal Gravitrax tiles. Any marble that hits the walls is in for a rough ride.
But clearly, some of the marbles have been training hard for this qualifying round. The estimated lap time of 31 seconds is obliterated in short order, with several marbles posting sub-26 s times. In the end, Snowflake of the Snowballs nabs pole position at 23.99 s, with Orangin of the O’rangers not far behind at 24.23 s.
Tomorrow’s race should be interesting, with a massive variance in lap times. Notice how the bottom two marbles finished nearly six seconds back from pole, with times of 29.65 s (Rojo Rollers) and 29.97 (Team Momo), respectively. Is that due to random chance on the Gravitrax? Or is it because some marbles are just better racers than others? We shall see soon.
