Public Domain Theater: Angel and the Badman (& “The Arctic Giant”)

Welcome to Public Domain Theater, your home for the wonderful world of films that have (in the United States, at least) fallen into the public domain, and are free for everyone to see!

This month, we have for you the classic Western Angel and the Badman, starring John Wayne himself as an injured gunfighter nursed back to health by a Quaker family, with the budding romance between him and the family’s daughter complicated by the clash between his outlaw ways and their pacifist ideals. Even if you’re not normally a John Wayne fan, I recommend checking this picture out, as it’s a rare instance of Wayne playing a lead who’s not always meant to be right in the end.

We also have for you an animated short in the Fleischer Studios Superman series: “The Arctic Giant”, one of the prototypes of the giant-monster-attacks-a-city genre, and a sheer marvel of animation.

So come hitch your horse to the post, pardner, and take a gander at these classic films from the Public Domain!
