Sports Corner – January 29, 2020

This Sunday, Katie Sowers makes history as the first woman assistant coach and the first openly gay coach to participate in the Super Bowl.  This certainly doesn’t fix the decades of sexism and homophobia in the NFL and in sports in general, but it’s a good step forward.  And gives me a reason to root for the Niners.  Even if I fully expect the Chiefs to give SF the Full Mahomes.  Here’s hoping for a good game, if nothing else.

Elsewhere…

  • Roger Federer cannot be stopped.
  • NHL All Star week is over and the games begin again.
  • Dusty Baker hired in Houston for what has to be an unenviable job.  The Red Sox, however, still need a manager.
  • The NBA tries to move forward after Kobe’s death.

I feel I would be remiss if I didn’t note this last story, though I also feel we’d had our chance to discuss it in the appropriate threads.  But as ever, all sports topics, the tragic and the triumphant alike, are welcome.
